Brenda L Croft’s commanding portrait photography is projected across Old Government House Parramatta, illuminating the site’s enduring significance for First Nations women.

The faces of seventeen women will wash across the historic building’s façade, in a powerful and captivating projection work set to a bold, bluesy track by acclaimed singer-songwriter Emma Donovan, produced and remastered especially for this installation.

“Ain’t no woman gonna get left behind” sings Donovan, as the piercing gazes of these strong First Nations women – captured for Croft’s series, Naabami (thou will/shall see): Barangaroo (army of me) – flash and melt across the architecture, led by the face of Leanne Tobin, Dharug elder.

Brenda L Croft's artwork is on display at Old Government House 8 pm – 10pm, Thursday 19 January - Sunday 22 January and the projection duration is 6-7 mins per cycle (on loop).

Dyin Nura will finish at 10pm each night.

LIVE EVENT - FRIDAY 20 JAN

Tying together the four nights of projection will be an evening of free live performance on Friday 20 January, featuring Emma Donovan – in the flesh this time – the soulful songs of Kee’ahn and Aboriginal dance collective Jannawi Dance Clan premiering Garrigarrang Badu.

The first ever full-length dance work in Dharug language, Garrigarrang Badu celebrates Dharug culture, and the beauty of our country where freshwater meets saltwater.
