June Jones has opened up her sonic palette for her third LP Pop Music For Normal Women, moving on from her art pop early work to make her most playful and bouncy album yet.
Stacked with irresistible earworms, Pop Music For Normal Women channels everything from modern megastars like Charlie XCX to nostalgic idols like Avril Lavigne.
At the centre of each song is still Jones’s rawly honest, wryly funny, confessional lyrics about her experiences as a trans woman and the realities of 21st Century life – trauma, loneliness, phone call anxiety, aspirations to be a “hoodie girl”, being neurodiverse and the highly relatable state of “goblin mode”.
Jones' penchant for shapeshifting comes through not only in her imaginative lyrics, but also in the wide variety of sounds and styles found throughout the record.
It’s danceable, hook-heavy electro-pop for the extremely online queer crew and fam, with support from "cold brewed bedroom experimental art-pop" polymath Romæo.
