Crafting gleaming new sounds from the wreckage of yesterday’s future, LA post-punk trio Automatic – lead vocalist and synth player Izzy Glaudini, drummer Lola Dompé and bass player Halle Saxon – puts its own radical spin on the remnants of 70s and 80s techno pop.

Mixing sci-fi satire with irresistible grooves, the all-girl threesome makes dissonant, funky sounds that catch the alienation of our moment – retro-futurist motorik pop you can dance to.

Since debuting live in 2017, Automatic – named for an ominous track from The Go-Go’s’ classic Beauty and the Beat – rapidly picked up buzz, their avant-garde, minimalist sound drawing comparisons to the likes of Suicide, Neu!, Joy Division and Kraftwerk (Dompé is the daughter of Kevin Haskins, drummer of Bauhaus, after all).

The neon-lit buzz of their sleek, mechanoid debut album Signal evolved into the stylish, finely-calibrated futurism of this year’s acclaimed follow-up, Excess, a record that sees the band reimagine the moment when the cool of the 70s underground morphed into the consumerism of the 80s.
